After brilliant studies at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique, where he obtained unanimously the Premier Prix of saxophone with Honours (class of Claude Delangle), Jérôme Laran entered the advanced cycle in 2003.
He won unanimously the first prize at International Competition of Saxophone in Luxembourg (2000) and he also excelled in several international competitions, such as the ARD of Munich (2001) or the Adolph Sax in Dinant (2002).
Chosen "Révélation Classique 2004" by the French artists Association ADAMI, he gave a performance in the Pablo Casals Festival in Prades, as well as in the "Transclassiques", in salle Gaveau (P aris).
He is supported by the Sasakawa and the Vincent Meyer, foundations and has just become prize-winner of the CZIFFRA foundation.
He has played with conductors such as Georges Prêtre, Michel Plasson, Pinchas Steinberg, in prestigious auditoriums (Berlin and Cologne Philharmonic Halls, Halle aux grains in Toulouse, Gaveau in Paris, Victoria Hall in Geneva, concert hall Franz Liszt in Budapest ...). He played for the first time in China in April 2005 and assumed the artistic direction of a new festival in the Hautes-Pyrénées: The Music Meeting of Capvern- les- Bains.
Very active in the field of contemporary premieres, he has performed the world premiere of the concerto "Scelcius Firmus" by Frédéric Verrières, with the ensemble Itinéraire at the Ars Musica Festival in Brussels. He has also played the premiere of the concerto "L'ombre des Rêves" by Bernat Vivancos with the Conservatoire prize-winners orchestra .
In 2004, he joined CAIRN, a contemporary music ensemble, where he has the opportunity to work with a large number of composers: Jérôme Combier, Philippe Leroux, Bruno Mantovani, Franck Bédrossian…
In September 2005, he recorded a CD devoted to music influenced by improvisation, in the context of the collection "Jeunes Solistes", an initiative from the Conservatoire of Paris and the Meyer Foundation.
He also had the opportunity to perform the "Dialogue de l'ombre double" by Pierre Boulez at the Cité de la Musique. Next season, he will give some concerts and Master-class on Canada, China, Japan, Poland…
He teaches on the Conservatoire National of Aulnay- sous- Bois.
